The term ORGANIC simply refers to how the product is being made. Different countries will have different requirements and regulations when it comes to how organic food should be processed. Fundamentally, it means that the crops are grown without using:

  • Synthetic pesticides
  • bioengineered genes (GMOs)
  • petroleum-based fertilizers
  • sewage sludge-based fertilizers
  • and other artificial materials

Organic vs Non-Organic Produce

Basically, what this means is that Organic food is made with natural fertilizers like manure and compost. Natural methods are used in managing weeds as well as in managing pests. On the other hand, non-organic foods are basically those that have been produced all this while. Synthetic or chemical fertilizers are used, weeds are controlled using herbicides that contained chemicals and synthetic pesticides are involved too.

Organic and conventionally-grown food

A same concept is applied to organic food. This involves how meat, dairy and eggs are produced. Feed that are all organic, hormone and GMO-free are provided. Natural methods are used to prevent diseases while in most cases, livestock are given mandatory access outside their living quarters.
On the other hand, non-organic food are usually not given access to the outdoors an usually fed with growth hormones. Besides that, antibiotics and medications are quite common too.
