Consistency is the keyword in cooking this dish because you need the meat to cook at the same rate.
What you need to prepare
This dish can be quite elaborate because you need about 30 minutes to complete. First, get the following items:
- Instant brown rice – about 2 cups
- Seasoned rice vinegar – use about a quarter cup
- Soy sauce, cornstarch, apricot preserves and canola oil. Prepare 2 tablespoons of each
- Lean meat. Cut them into bite-sizes and about 1 pound of this will be enough
- Cloves garlic – 4 will do
- Minced ginger – about 2 teaspoons
- chicken broth – about 1 cup
- Bite-sized vegetables like bell peppers, snow peas and broccoli. Use a few cups of these
- Sliced, water chestnuts
Preparing this dish
First, you need to cook the rice as per normal. Mix the soy sauce, cornstarch, apricot and vinegar into a small bowl. Heat up 1 tablespoon of oil and then throw in the meat for about 3 minutes. When it is cooked, transfer them out onto a plate. Another tablespoon of oil goes into the wok and then the garlic and ginger goes in. the broth is added and stir until it boils.
Then, reduce the heat before throwing in the vegetables and cover it for about 5 minutes. Then, add the water chestnuts and the meat. The sauce you prepared earlier then goes in. What you want to do now is to let the sauce creep into the meat. Stir until the colour changes and then you can serve this with the rice.
