Malaysian students today enjoy various facilities provided by Malaysian government in terms of education amenities and loans. Upon graduating from secondary school and acquiring SPM results, student with excellent results in the examination can apply for scholarships given out by MARA, JPA, UM, USM and plenty other governmental and private agencies.
Malaysian Government scholarships
In the past, the JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam) scholarships was seen as being among the most prestigious and quite difficult to get. Based on records provided by Malaysian government, there were a total of 15,357 JPA scholarship applicants in 2005. And from that figure, only 5,946 made it into interview sessions with 1,500 JPA Overseas Scholarships awarded to the applicants.
Two years later in 2007, 15,220 SPM graduates applied for the scholarships and after several rounds of interview and test, government has awarded up to 2,000 scholarships to the applicants and this trend has not changed eversince.
Other Malaysian government scholarships

This scholarship is offered to foreign students who have excellent results to study in Malaysia. it is aimed to attract talent from abroad into the country.
Unlike the previous JPA scholarship, this one is aimed at offering 7,000 students who are enrolled in the public and selected private or government-linked universities.
This scholarship is targeted for SPM students who aims to continue their studies. They must obtain 9 A+ in the SPM to be eligible.
As the name implies, this scholarship can be applied by Bumiputera students with exemplary SPM results. They can apply to study either locally or abroad.
This scholarship is specifically for those studying engineering. It was first offered in 2016 for SPM leavers who are looking to study engineering in countries like Germany, France, Korea or Japan.
Known to be one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country, this is highly sought-after and demanded. Students can apply for financial assistance to help them in various levels of studies.
Aimed to help students pursuing their post-graduate studies, they must have at least 3.75 CGPA in their bachelor degree to be eligible for this. In 2016, 12 PhD and 6 Masters scholarships were offered.
This scholarship is provided for those living in the Federal Territories around the country who need some form of bursary or financial aid.
