According to Penang deputy police chief SAC Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar, the recent arrest of Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj the Sungai Siput MP and 30 other members of the PSM or Parti Sosialis Malaysia was justified and needed as they were allegedly trying to wave war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong when they were caught with Communist materials.
The arrest gained nationwide notice following the call for the Bersih 2.0 rally participation and their links to the rally scheduled for July 9. The party members were all arrested at the Sungai Dua toll plaza at the North-South Expressway last weekend where some 28 T-shirts of which 8 of them had images of former leaders of Communist Parties like Chin Peng and Kandi Suriani Abdullah were seized.
Other items seized include pamphlets that promoted the PSM as well as on the Bersih 2.0 rally which the police did not approve. Investigations have been carried out and the police found that the party was trying to revive the communist philosophy by associating themselves with the Bersih 2.0 rally believed to be initiated by the Opposition parties. The group arrested included 14 women aged from 16 to 64 and have since been released on police bail.
