One of the trademarks about Kuching the state capital of Sarawak is its cats. The name Kuching is the BM word for cats after all, so it is only natural that their official mascot is the cat.
Kuching the home for cat-lovers
In fact, it is known that the locals here love their cats and there are many cat statues enacted around the city especially on roundabouts and such. It used to b e part of the National Museum before being transferred to Kuching to be managed by the Sarawak Museum in 1987 and began opening to the public in 1988.
Cat Museum best place to start
So if you have not gotten enough of cats during your visit here, you can head out to the Cat Museum to find out more about the fascinating world and see for yourselves how many types of species are there around and some of the artefacts collected on this much loved pet. This is the first Cat Museum in the world and is located in the Kuching City North City Hall in Petra Jaya. Souvenirs, art and exhibits are all on show for you to see. Admission to the museum is free but you would have to pay RM3 to bring in a camera and RM5 for a video camera. It is opened everyday from 9am to 5pm except for Mondays.
