e-Lab (English Laboratory) is a 16—pg English language supplement published by Utusan Malaysia, under its education arm (Unit pendidikan). E—lab saw its first publication in April 2007.
It is now in its 6th of publication.
e—Lab was conceived as a direct need to address the concerns of the Education Ministry regarding the falling standards of the English language. Throughout its five gears of publication, e—lab has catered to the various needs of Malaysian Schools.
e—Lab Off With primary students as its target group and has slowly adapted to accommodate lower primary and secondary school students. It has a 70:30 ratio of classroom use and general education. e—Lab can be used by teachers, students and by parents who wish to give their children an added edge.
Starting 2011, e—Lab incorporated the syllabus to help students of year one to understand and enjoy the basics of the English language while maintaining its focus for PMR and SPM students. 2011 also saw the inclusion of literature for the SPM level.
This e-Lab is taking its role to greater heights with its collaboration with University Malaya and its research center in Fraser’s Hill — Living Lob and the Center for Dialogue and Transformation.
This is in line with the government’s stress on 2011 being the Year of Science. Therefore, e-Lab and Living Lab are jointly going to help students to enjoy the wonders of science by using English as the tool of communication.
This year, e-Lab is also supported by the English Language Society(ELS) in its efforts to provide useful and interesting learning and teaching materials.
2012 sees e-Lab forging ahead in its endeavours to instill the love for the English language in all Malaysians.
