IO Hawk – The future of Skateboards and the Segway?

IO Hawk – The future of Skateboards and the Segway?

It looks as if it came out from a sci-fi movie and it surely looked like one of the gadgets from one. And that is what the IO Hawk is.

John Soibatian is the inventor of IO Hawk which was on show at a recent CES event. Seen as the Spiritual Descendant of Segway, it is made with a skateboard platform and smaller version of the Segway.

For those of you who do not know what Segway is, it is the T-handle and 2 wheels vehicle which took the world by storm and used in airports and shopping malls.

The IO Hawk meanwhile is smaller and lighter without the handles. The 2-wheel plank vehicle allows you to stand on top and then when you lean forward, it moves. All you need to do is to move your body to the direction you want and it will follow.

The other cool thing about this is you will need about 3 to 5 minutes to learn how to ride it. You do not feel as if you are going to fall off because it is THAT stable.

It is self-balancing and responds to your weight movement. There are sensitive sensors on the platform which is where your feet will rest on. The sensitivity can be tuned according to your preference.

It is designed to go for about 15 to 20 kilometers each charge and will be sold for about US$1,800 and if demand increases, prices will surely come down.

And if you are wondering, NO! it is not a mind-controlled device, although it looks every way like one.
